Course Overview

Edward I is rightly regarded as an important king in terms of England’s political and legal development during the medieval era. Edward I enacted a number of political and legal reforms that created a more representative political system (the forerunner of Parliament) and strengthened England’s armed forces. But Edward I was also a significant ruler from the perspective of the Welsh, who were finally conquered during Edward’s reign, and the Scots, who were very nearly conquered. This class will explore Edward’s impact on Wales and Scotland.
