Course Overview

We’ll explore money's history, from coins, to gold-backed paper money, to cryptocurrencies. Videos will highlight turning points, such as rampant inflation in 1924 Germany; Nixon’s 1971 end to the gold-standard; and the 2009 mortgage crisis and recession. We’ll look at bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, which moved from niche to mainstream in 2024, when Pres. Trump declared the US would become “the crypto capital of the world.” What is bitcoin; how is it created; is it fraudulent; how do countries in crisis use it; how can it be purchased or invested in; how does it impact banks?
