Course Overview

On August 20-21, 1968, the Warsaw Pact’s invasion of the former Czechoslovakia quashed the country’s pro-democracy movement. By then, the Czechs and Slovaks lived under Communism and Russian domination for twenty years and they would live under military occupation for another twenty years. During that period, the majority coped with political repression, incompetence, and daily absurdities by passive resistance and peculiar humor. This presentation will offer historical background and my personal experience of growing up under a totalitarian regime.
