Course Overview

Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) was an Austrian philosopher who began as a logical positivist but then changed his focus to language games. His influence has been enormous in philosophical circles from his reflections on language and his views on cultural and religious issues. A unique personality, a true genius, and a writer of superb creativity and appeal. This course will delve into one of the great concerns of 20th Century philosophy-the meaning of language. Students will be encouraged to read the book Wittgenstein: A Very Short Introduction by A.C. Grayling.
