Course Overview

The discovery of gold near Santa Fe and in the Colorado Rockies sent fortune seekers scrambling to find the mother lode in remote areas of the West.  We’ll consider how gold fever brought women as diverse as Dona Tules and Baby Doe Tabor into mining camps where they found hardship and drudgery as well as the boundless optimism of gold seekers always on the lookout for the next trike and flush times. Their stories and those of many others illuminate the excitement and potential as well as heartbreak in the American West.
