Course Overview

From the charming TV witch Samantha Stephens in “Bewitched” (1964-1972) to countless movies, The Witch as a character is sure to entertain whether in comedy or horror format. We will examine how The Witch and the supernatural she represents became transformed by Victorian literary imagination, studied as folklore and popular delusions, domesticated for popular consumption, and what her role in movies and TV series tells us about our current society.
