Course Overview

During the New Kingdom era (1550-1077 BCE), Egypt became the most powerful entity in the eastern Mediterranean. Egyptian military and political dominance extended into areas that had previously been independent trading partners, such as Syria and Palestine. The powerful dynasties that ruled during this period are also well known because of excavations that have been carried out since the 1800s. But despite this era of power, wealth, and prestige, internal politics and external events led to Egypt’s decline as the New Kingdom period ended. This class will focus on the rise and fall of ancient Egypt’s most famous era.
