Course Overview

The climate of deserts favors sparse vegetation and limited weathering processes.  These factors result in the development of many readily recognized and common desert landforms, such as sand dunes, badlands, rocky hillslopes, and dry washes.  The origins of these desert features have been well understood for the last several decades, but not so the formation of unusual landforms such as “desert pavement” and “hoodoos”.  Recent studies shed new light on how geology and climate play important roles in their formation and evolution.
