Course Overview

We’ll focus how the peaceful end of the Cold War led to the present situation in Ukraine. What occurred at the end of WWII was a major break in political and economic philosophies that led to the division of Europe into two competing factions. This was the beginning of the Cold War. The United States and its Allies vs The Soviet Union, who were the two great superpowers of the era. The effects of the Cold War were felt around the world until the disintegration of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. A period of relative peace and prosperity in Europe followed, only to be broken by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with the beginnings of a new Cold War stance. We’ll explore how the invasion of Ukraine forced The United States, NATO, and the European Union to make difficult decisions about how to deal with the war and its destabilizing effects on Europe and the World.
