Course Overview

Since Rupert Murdock created Fox News in 1996, it has grown into America’s most watched and profitable news program. It is also a major source of deliberate misinformation that has contributed to political polarization and tribalism in the American electorate. Testimony presented in the Dominion defamation lawsuit revealed that Fox management and its reporters doubted Trump’s claims of a stolen 2020 election but promoted those claims on air for the sake of profits and to keep their audience from moving onto more extreme rightwing sources. Some discussion will review the new book Network of Lies: The Epic Saga of Fox News, Donald Trump, and the Battle for American Democracy by Brian Stelter. How will Murdock's retirement change Fox News?
