Everything in the colonial period either led to this dramatic uprising or unfolded as its consequence. In the 18th century, Spanish and Pueblo communities, found ways to coexist through compromise and adaptation. These hard-won accommodations became the cultural and political bedrock of New Mexico as we know it today, blending Native resilience with Spanish pragmatism.
