Course Overview

A hero comes to the aid of a Danish king in the eighth century to free his hall of a monster raiding it every night. The hero is Beowulf. The king is Hrothgar. The monster is Grendel who attacks, kills, or carry off warriors who have pledged their fealty to the king. Join me and Beowulf in an in-depth journey through this Old English epic poem to follow his hero’s journey. Please bring the Seamus Heaney translation of this poem with you to class.
