Course Overview

In his recent book The Nation That Never Was: Reconstructing America's Story Constitutional scholar Kermit Roosevelt III argues the American commitment to equality is not rooted in the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution, and the Constitution but rather in the Gettysburg Address, the Civil War and Reconstruction. Could this be true?  How does that inform us with today’s struggles over race, class and “woke?”
