Course Overview

Are you ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant rhythms and rich cultural heritage of Mexico? Folklórico is more than just a dance form; it's a celebration of tradition, storytelling, and community.

Folklórico dance has many opportunities to learn about the cultures and traditions of México, each region of México has its own dance that represents them by music, footwork and costume and the history of why these dances represent each particular region is inviting and educational. Folklórico dance is an art that expresses and communicates the significance of why a particular song is used and why costumes have meaning as well as the footwork, all parts encompass the true beauty of Mexico.

Dance instructor, Michelle Garcia, has been dancing and performing Folklórico dance since she was seven years old. She also danced Jazz, Flamenco, Ballet and Tap. After many dance experiences, Garcia met the world of Folklórico dance, and this was the start of her passion for this art. Fast forward to today, Garcia wants to share her learnings, she wants to share how Folklórico dance has helped her overcome her shyness and has built her confidence.

What You'll Learn

  • Students will learn the patterns and the technique of Folklórico dance and also the history of the dances.
  • Learn movement of the body and the footwork and counts of all steps to complete a whole dance from start to finish.
  • Benefit from physical movement, introduction of different music, self-expression, mental development, history, traditions, help and support with focus and coordination, develop social skills, dance moves and improved endurance.
  • Students will be exposed to the Spanish language in the teachings and the history.
  • Students will walk away with a plethora of information, new dance style and movement, take part in a collaborative effort as Folklorico dance and choreography relies on each dancer.

Who Should Attend

Folklórico dance is inviting to all ages. The dance instructor, Michelle Garcia, has taught beginning, intermediate and advanced and ensures that participants are at the level that they are comfortable.

Additional Information

There will be an opportunity to perform live on a Saturday at the end of the course.
