Course Overview

World renowned scientists gathering in a secret city on the Pajarito plateau to create atomic weapons is a story familiar to New Mexicans, but less well-known are the accounts of the women who participated in various aspects of the Manhattan project.  At Los Alamos women worked as scientists and technicians, as librarians and as secretaries.  They managed homes and families, often with the help of women from the nearby Pueblos and Hispanic communities.  And for many, their wartime experiences and their reaction to The Bomb shaped the direction of their postwar lives.
