Course Overview

Embark on a language and cultural adventure in this introduction to Russian. Learning a new language is a great way to gain personal satisfaction and it’s an excellent professional asset, too. This course will introduce you to the basics of Russian written and oral language and will provide you with language communication skills. You will also learn a lot about Russian culture and will feel confident interacting with Russian speakers in basic social settings. The course will lay a foundation for further studies and exploration of Russian language and culture. . Note: Textbook: Nachalo, Vol. 1 by Sophia Lubensky, ISBN-13: 978-0073655154 and ISBN-10: 0073655155 is required. Amazon.com offers a lot of used copies for a reasonable price. CD is not required. 

What You'll Learn

  • Have confidence introducing yourself in Russian and in providing biographical data.
  • Learn to elicit similar information from Russian speakers and to carry on a simple conversation.
  • Acquire skills in navigating Russian printed materials and will develop basic language skills for traveling to Russian-speaking countries.
  • Build a foundation for further learning of Russian language. 

Who Should Attend

Students interested in Russian language and culture for travel, work or family purposes. Participants should be able to allocate time for completing homework between classes.
