Course Overview

Making color with plants is both a technical and alchemical process that will entice both intuitive creatives and technical painters. We will cover the basic science of dyes/pigments, take a look at local color options, and dive into various techniques to make paint from plants. This is a hands-on experience, and we will go through each step together in class, making samples and taking notes along the way. Students will learn the many variables present in working with natural color and develop a local palette sampler complete with notes, techniques and examples to aid in their future at-home practice.
