Course Overview

Ready to immerse yourself in a self-defense and personal protection program designed exclusively for Women ages 19 and older? Do you want to learn personal hands-on self-defense, defensive handgun and emergency first aid? Women are more prone today to be victims of violent attacks! DON’T BE A VICTIM! We have the perfect class you need! In a collaboration between Smart Girl Self-Defense and Calibers, over a three-day weekend you will learn:

Friday, January 17, 2025 (4pm - 8pm)

Smart Girl Self Defense at Smart Girl Self Defense, self-defense concepts, the most common grabs and holds, firearm retention (taught by law enforcement) as it relates to self-defense, psychology and resiliency.

Components to be covered:

  • Introductions, presentation and agenda.
  • Fostering resiliency in today’s world.
  • Concepts that reinforce escape and avoidance and situational awareness.
  • Utilizing the most common grabs and holds and fighting back.
  • Understanding the key firearm aspects of self defense
  • Strategies for dealing with the freeze response

Saturday, January 18, 2025 (10am - 2pm)

Basic Handgun Use- is it right for you? Safety, legalities plus firing on the range, at Calibers, Cutler Location. Firearms will be provided (unless you'd like to bring your own). There will be a need for ear and eye protection and ammunition. You can purchase ammo there if you need to.

Components to be covered:

  • Classroom introduction to firearm mechanics, handling, loading, unloading and storage of firearms.
  • Overview of local firearm laws and responsibilities
  • Range safety protocols and use
  • Supervised life fire practice with emphasis on controlled, confident handling of firearms.
  • Non-lethal alternatives to firearms (pepper spray, tasers, and other implements) for those uncomfortable with firearms.

Sunday, January 19, 2025 (9am - 11am)

Emergency first aid/managing bleeds and injuries and airway, at Smart Girl Self Defense.

Components to be covered:

  • Basic CPR/AED use- this will not involve certification
  • Bleeding control and wound care (tourniquet)
  • Managing common injuries, sprains, fractures
  • Preparing an effective emergency kit
  • Wrap up, questions and feedback. Ways to further training in self-defense or firearms.

 

What You'll Learn

  • Equip women with situational awareness, practical self-defense techniques, consisting of the most common grabs and holds. Provide them with the ability to better handle common threats to safety, as well as cope with the increasing crime in Albuquerque and surrounding areas.
  • Provide an introductory course on firearm safety, laws, basic handling and firing.
  • Teach essential emergency first-aid skills for use in critical situations
  • Create a supportive, empowering environment for participants to build confidence, awareness and inner strength.

Who Should Attend

Looking for a comprehensive, immersive program designed exclusively for women, ages 19 and older, to enhance personal safety skills and knowledge? Join us for this unique and informative educational experience. No prior experience is required.

Additional Information

Participants must be age 19 and over at the time of the class, due to firearms component. Please bring state/federal issued ID for verification.

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Ear and eye protection recommended.
