2195 - Pottery: Beginning Hand Building
Course Overview
Join us at Creativity Warehouse for our comprehensive month-long hand-building pottery classes! Perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their skills, these classes will guide you through the essentials of hand-building, including pinch pots, coil pots, slab construction, decorations, and glazing. The hand building class covers all of the basics of creating pottery with slab roller, texture, pretty much everything you need to know to make items not using the pottery wheel. Each class has a specific project that builds from the one before so that by the final class you have several pieces to glaze and have learned most of the basics of creating functional pieces. All supplies and tools are provided.
Week 1: Start by crafting three pinch pots, then cut them in half to assess your skill in judging thickness and to train your tactile senses. You’ll then create a pinch pot to keep. Next, you’ll make two coil pots, exploring different techniques for attaching coils.
Week 2: Dive into creating a "mystery planter," where you’ll learn to use the slab roller, texture rollers, stamps, and cookie cutters to design a unique small planter.
Week 3: Apply your slab construction techniques from Week 2 to build a custom mug.
Week 4: Finish by glazing your completed pieces, giving them a beautiful and polished finish.
