Course Overview

This course focuses on involving family members in effective treatment.  The course begins with a review of historical conceptions of the role of families in substance dependence, and of various approaches to family therapy. Participants are introduced to behavioral couples counseling. Effective methods for engaging unmotivated substance users are reviewed, including community reinforcement and family training (CRAFT). Also discussed are Al-Anon, the impact of parental substance abuse on children, and the inter-relationship of substance use disorders and family violence. 

Course is NAADAC approved for 16 professional training hours.

Who Should Attend

  • Participants working towards LSAA or LADAC
  • Current counselors, social workers, or those working in the field in need of continuing CE hours for their licensure.

Additional Information

Participants will need to attend both days, take course exam on last day, and pass with 70% or above to receive course certificate.
