Course Overview
School counselors are leaders and advocates who contribute to the academic, career and social/emotional development of students in a school setting. They have a primary obligation to students along with responsibilities to parents/guardians, the school and self. Standard of Care refers to what a reasonably competent professional would do under similar circumstances. This means making ethical decisions based on ethical codes, laws, school board policy and other pertinent information. This course intends to raise awareness of the legal and ethical issues practicing school counselors face daily. Ethical dilemmas will be examined using an ethical decision-making model. NAADAC approved for 4 professional training hours.What You'll Learn
- Understand the difference between school counseling ethics, laws, policies, and practices.
- Explain ethical concerns that arise in the practice of school counseling.
- Describe the most complicating factors of working with minors in schools.
- Apply an ethical decision-making model to resolve ethical dilemmas.
Who Should Attend
- Current students in school or adolescent counseling
- Current students in addiction counseling and those seeking licensure in LSAA and LADAC
- Currently licensed counselors or those working in the behavioral health field who want additional training or are in need of license renewal hours
Additional Information
Student will need to attend all course sessions and pass final exam or assignment with a 70% or above to receive course completion certificate.Accrediting Associations
