Learn how to constructively communicate in difficult and uncomfortable situations Get tools to enhance your day-to-day conversations that can positively impact your professional and personal life. When people feel they can't discuss difficult workplace issues or be candid about performance, projects or quality, it can lead to low morale, reduced efficiency, increased costs, and project delays. Crucial Conversations, offered by the UNM Ombuds Office, provides conversation techniques that can be applied immediately to difficult situations that may occur in your day-to-day professional or personal life.
What You'll Learn
In this online self-paced course with 1:1 coaching from Ombuds, you will learn how to resolve individual and group disagreements; speak persuasively, not abrasively, about high-stakes, emotional, or controversial topics; foster teamwork and better decision-making; build teams that work together and act with unity and conviction.

The course is open only to UNM Faculty, Staff, or Retirees.Requirements
Anyone enrolling in this course must also complete the Ombuds Service Enrollment form.
Attend Kick-off session via Zoom (instructor will set up meeting)
Thirty days after you have completed the course, Anne Lightsey will schedule a 1:1 Zoom meeting to review the material, ask questions, practice skills, and check-in on how you are applying what you learned and the goals you set (+- 1.5 hours).
