Course Overview

Rabbie Burns only lived for 37 years, but he made a lasting impact on the Scottish dialect (and on many a Scottish lass). You have probably joined in singing Auld Lang Syne on New Year’s Eve. Burns wrote My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose, Comin’ Thro’ the Rye, and Address to a Haggis. He is the only poet from any culture who is revered around the world. Thousands of people take part in the annual festivities for his January birthday, called "Burns Nights." Who else would write “Wee, sleeket, cowran, tim’rous beastie” to a mouse?
