Course Overview

Money in modern economies is conjured into existence by governments and banks. Government money and bank money are created for different purposes and operate under different rules, but both kinds play an important role in fostering economic activity. Understanding what money is and how it is created and deployed gives a surprising amount of insight into inflation, unemployment, and boom and bust business cycles. Understanding money and its management also reveals opportunities for creating economic benefits for ourselves and our descendants that would have been constrained under a gold based monetary regime.
