The Medical Interpreter Program (offered through Southern California School of Interpretation) is a comprehensive 81-hour online certificate program designed to prepare bilingual individuals for professional careers as healthcare interpreters in hospitals, clinics, physician offices, community health centers, and other healthcare settings.

The program provides in-depth instruction in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, healthcare systems, interpreter ethics, HIPAA, cultural competency, standards of practice, and effective communication. Through instructor-led training, realistic medical scenarios, live assessments, unlimited 24/7 online interpreting lab access, and AI-supported learning with Knowi, students develop the practical skills required for consecutive interpretation, simultaneous interpretation, sight translation, note-taking, and memory enhancement.Additional Information
Instructor: Nestor Wagner is a Certified Medical Interpreter as well as a Certified Court Interpreter. He has been teaching interpreters since 1990. He contributes to the certification process for Immigration Interpreters and Analytical Linguists. He is active in the professional and scholarly community for advancing interpreting skills. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Washington.
Prerequisites
