Course Overview

Gouache (pronounced “gwash") painting is a technique in which an opaque white pigment is added to watercolor to produce opacity. In gouache, the color lies on the surface of the paper, forming a continuous layer, or coating. A gouache is characterized by a directly reflecting brilliance. Gouache is a versatile paint and a great medium for beginners. In this step by step painting class, you will learn how to sketch a floral bouquet, brushstroke techniques for adding more visual interest and texture to paintings, layering and blending and basic color theory. Gouache achieves a flat matte finish that is unique to any other medium!

There will be a demo at the first class. In order to achieve the best quality results, please bring only specific materials listed. If you are unable to find materials, we will discuss resources for materials first day of class.
