About Street Food Institute
The Street Food Institute (SFI) is a non-profit organization that was created to serve as an entrepreneur-focused and workforce training culinary program. We are comprised of food service and business professionals that are dedicated to shaping a healthy, sustainable and creative food future throughout our community. We are guided by our belief that food has an amazing capacity to connect people and enrich our community by creating jobs, developing local business opportunities and inspiring the culinary leaders of tomorrow.
We are here to share, teach and inspire students, future entrepreneurs, and existing food business owners. We achieve this by offering a combination of classroom theory and a hands-on apprenticeship, where students learn everything from menu design to recipe testing and cost analysis. Through this unique and engaging classroom experience our students graduate with the confidence and preparedness to start their own successful small food business.
In April of 2025 The Street Food Institute moved into our new home in the historic Barelas neighborhood. The Barelas Community Kitchen serves as an education space and shared kitchen that allows us to support many more entrepreneurs as they launch and scale their food business.
