Celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th birthday as we explore Sense & SensibilityPersuasionNorthanger Abbey, and her juvenilia. Through lecture, discussion and watching some of the brilliant movie adaptations, we’ll examine themes such as social class, family life, and women’s roles in Georgian/Regency England, while considering the historical context of Austen’s life and work. We’ll explore how she used wit, romance, and yes, subversive social commentary to challenge societal norms, and how her writing remains relevant today.
