Section Notes

Shakespeare wrote plays to be seen, not read! But reading and understanding the plays before seeing them greatly enhances the play-going experience. This summer Albuquerque’s New Mexico Shakespeare Festival will perform “The Tempest”, Shakespeare’s final comedy and among the greatest of his playwriting achievements. This class will focus on that play's plot, characters and themes through text-based discussions & DVD viewings; we will hear guest speakers from the Festival; we will explore parallels between this play’s protagonist, Prospero, and Shakespeare as he neared the end of his playwriting career. Please bring a text of the play to class, any edition.
