Course Overview

During his leadership, from 336 to 323 BCE, Alexander the Great united the Greek city-states and led the Corinthian League. He also became the King of Persia, Babylon, and Asia, and created Macedonian colonies in the region. Most of his ruling years focused on an unparalleled military campaign through Asia and northeast Africa. By age 30, he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, extending from Greece to northwest India. He founded some twenty cities, many bearing his name to this day. Widely considered among history’s most successful military commanders, he was unbeaten in battle. While considering the conquests of Carthage and Rome, Alexander died of malaria in Babylon (now Iraq), on June 13, 323 BCE.
