Course Overview

In Writing Down the Land, we’ll engage in writing about the physical world, about nature. We’ll explore how the land touches us emotionally and spiritually. We’ll look at how it lives within us. We’ll view the land through the words of writers who loved the world with their writing – Leslie Marmon Silko, Annie Dillard, Robert Macfarlane with his work about the Wild Places in Scotland. This six-week course has a simple goal: to learn to connect to the land through our writing, whether that means stories, poetry, or memories. From a craft point of view, this means setting. Yet it’s more. It’s about setting as a character, setting as part of our lives.
