March 16, 2026 marked the 100th anniversary of Robert Goddard's first successful rocket launch. After only four test flights of the world’s first liquid-fuel rockets, Robert Goddard was forbidden to continue his research in his native Massachusetts that year. Finding New Mexico better suited to his work, he spent ten years in Roswell refining his inventions and achieving remarkable results. Along the way, he endured environmental and technical challenges while enjoying supportive relationships with an assortment of fascinating friends. discover New Mexico’s important role in pioneering modern technology and a too-often overlooked aspect of New Mexico’s rich history.
