Course Overview

From the 16th through the 17th centuries, Europe was gripped by a witch-hunting fever. Spurred on by official sanctions and supported by local authorities, the hunts broke out in numerous locations for almost two hundred years. We will take a look at the reasons for the rise of these events, their development, eventual decline, and the insights they provide into conspiracy theories, credulity, and the ‘hunts’ of our own age.
