Course Overview

Do you wonder how ancient cultures understood the world around them? Animism is one of the oldest and most widespread spiritual perspectives in human history. Animism is the belief that the natural world, including animals, plants, rivers, mountains, and even weather, possesses spiritual essence or life force. Rather than separating the physical and spiritual worlds, animistic traditions see them as deeply connected. Explore how early societies understood nature and spirit and the animistic beliefs in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania. Understand the role of ritual, ancestors, and sacred spaces and how animistic ideas influenced later religious traditions.
