Course Overview

Since the field of Forensic Psychology first appeared at the turn of the 20th century, legal and police professionals have turned to specially trained and experienced psychologists to assist them in investigating difficult cases and security specialists have sought psychological consultation in apprehending security personnel spying for foreign enemies. Psychological profiling is probably the most famous (but most controversial) of these methods. In dramas, these professionals are often portrayed as miraculous seers into the minds of killers and rapists. Psychological autopsy is a method for providing evidence about whether a death was accidental or a result of suicide. In this session, a retired forensic psychologist with over 40 years of experience in the field will discuss the science and lore of this part of the field. This session will cover violent behavior, suicide, sexual assault and other unpleasant and perhaps triggering material.
