Course Overview

Opera is more than music. Its visual elements – sets, lighting, costumes, makeup, and the actions, expressions, and body language of the singers – are essential to an opera’s success. For over a decade, photographer Lance Ozier has captured the visual power of opera by photographing dress rehearsals and publicity events for Albuquerque’s Opera Southwest productions. In this class, Lance will share stories and strategies of his opera photography, including candid, behind-the-scenes photos as well as production images from some of the most beloved (and a few unusual) operas.
