Course Overview

A hundred years before the Protestant Reformation, a blind military genius and the peasant armies he trained in innovative battlefield tactics defeated five Imperial crusades launched to extirpate their heretical beliefs. For a time, the Hussites spread their movement throughout Central Europe and although they failed to maintain its expansion, they ultimately secured a right to worship their particular version of Christianity for the next two hundred years. This presentation examines the rise, spread, and survival of this little- known religious war that became a precursor to the 16th and 17th century European Wars of Religion.
