Course Overview

 
This course will focus on a 3-phase framework for implementing cultural responsiveness into higher education classrooms. The phases are Understanding, Development, and Delivery. With each phase, culturally responsive teaching skills will be emphasized in discussion-based instructional formats. Guided by an asynchronous delivery format, participants will acquire the skills to teach in culturally responsive ways in higher education classrooms

  • Participants will learn how to model a multicultural awareness of themselves and their students.
  • Participants will learn how to independently develop materials, resources, curriculum, and instructional strategies that enhance their approaches to culturally responsive teaching.
  • Participants will learn how to employ teaching strategies that are inclusive of community and cultural traditions.
  • Participants will learn how to develop assessments that are appropriately inclusive of students’ cultural orientations to thinking, knowing, and doing.
