Course Overview

Mexican love songs capture deep emotion and cultural heritage, blending passion with tradition. Some songs, in their writing and presentation, reflecting feminist and post-modern perspectives. Artists like Linda Ronstadt, Selena, and Freddy Fender brought these heartfelt ballads to wider audiences, preserving their rich storytelling and connecting generations through music’s universal language of love. We'll examine songs by these artists and others, with English translations available and commentary on their origins, presentation and impact. Please note that different artists/songs will be covered than in last fall's presentation. Join us on Mexican Independence Day for a celebration of Mexican songwriting!
