Course Overview

This course provides an orientation to the issues of diagnosis, assessment and treatment planning that are specific to substance abuse treatment. Diagnostic considerations include the spectrum of DSM substance use disorders, and use of SCID criteria in diagnosis. Valid instruments are introduced for assessing substance use, problems, and dependence, need for detoxification, and psychological dependence. Issues of client-treatment matching are considered, including the ASAM treatment placement criteria, and connecting clients with needed services in the community. NAADAC approved for 16 professional training hours.  

Who Should Attend

  • Those interested in Substance Abuse Counseling
  • Those who want to become licensed Addiction Counselors (LSAA or LADAC)
  • Currently licensed counselors or those working in the behavioral health field who want additional training or are in need of license renewal hours

Additional Information

Student has to attend both days and receive a 70% or greater on the final course assignment or exam to pass course and receive a certificate of completion.
