Course Overview

Join us on an epic journey with Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, the first European to explore the American Southwest. Chasing legends of the golden Seven Cities of Cíbola and its storied riches, Coronado led 300 soldiers into uncharted territory in 1540. Along the way, he became the first European to witness the awe-inspiring Palo Duro Canyon. We'll uncover what drove his expedition, what he discovered (and didn’t), and how his journey reshaped history and Indigenous lives across the region. Mr. Cervantes will show a short film that will trace the history of Spanish colonization in the Southwest.
