Course Overview

Discuss the differences between adolescent and adult substance use/abuse, and review evidence-based approaches for working with adolescents. Relationships with parenting style and parental substance abuse are considered. Treatment methods considered are family therapies, multisystemic therapy, and adolescent CRA (ACRA). Additionally, a program for working with family members to engage resistant teens into treatment will be introduced: community reinforcement and family training CRAFT. A 'what works' review is included, examining the evidence base for various approaches to prevention.  Course is NAADAC approved for 16 professional training hours.

Who Should Attend

  • Student working towards LSAA or LADAC
  • Current counselors, social workers, or those working in the behavioral health field who want additional training or are in need of license renewal hours.

Additional Information

Student will need to attend both days and take course exam on last day and pass with 70% or above to receive course certificate.
