Course Overview

The need for skilled EKG professionals in hospitals, doctor’s practices, clinics and diagnostic labs has never been greater. The field is filled with opportunities for development and career growth. EKG technicians use monitoring equipment to help physicians test patients’ hearts, working in hospitals or clinics to provide direct patient care. EKG techs can have a very dynamic working environment, which involves working with patients from all types of backgrounds.

  • Medical ethics and legal aspects of patient contact
  • Electrocardiography and echocardiography
  • An introduction to the components, function and proper use of the EKG machine
  • The normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement
  • Preparing a patient for a 12-lead EKG
  • 12-lead placement, interpretation and troubleshooting

Additional Information

After the successful completion of the the program, students will be prepared to sit for the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) Certified EKG Technician (CET) Exam. Exam cost is included in the tuition.

Prerequisites

Must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
