Course Overview

The mythic traditions of all Native American peoples are vibrant narratives that can tell us a lot about the cultures of each group. In this class we will look at three areas of the myth of various Native American peoples. We will look at trickster myths that teach trickster can come in the form of not just coyote but also raven and rabbit. We will also learn that the Trickster has more roles than just conning gods and people. In the creation myths we will find how, without science, different people conceived how the creation of all being in ways as varied as any myths found in Europe and Asia. Lastly, we will look at how these peoples viewed the afterlife.
