Course OverviewBubblegum was a genre of sunshine pop music in the late 60s/early 70s designed to appeal to children and pre-teens, who not only chewed the sugary substance but had the most disposable income as record buyers. Although it was an animated cartoon band, The Archies had the most successful bubblegum song of all time in 1969 (“Sugar, Sugar”). There were lots of live acts as well, including The Cowsills, The Monkees, The Jackson Five, The Osmonds, and The Partridge Family. Sing along to these catchy hits as we marvel at the ways studios marketed to kids, along with many young adults who considered this pop style a guilty pleasure.
