96440 - Curanderismo: Traditional Medicine without Borders Conference
Course Overview
Explore the history of Curanderismo, the usage of medicinal herbs, remedies, rituals, and instruments of healing used in traditional medicine. The program hosts speakers from throughout the country and other parts of the world including internationally known curanderos and herbalists specialized in this type of medicine which give lectures, carry out exercises for community members to learn and practice traditional healing rituals and conduct afternoon workshops (optional).
Students will explore an integrative approach to traditional medicine and will have the opportunity to examine demonstrations that incorporate Curanderismo with various traditional and holistic health techniques.
Guest speakers will include researchers in the field and healers from the US and Mexico.
What You'll Learn
- Identify the history, traditions, rituals, herbs, and remedies of Curanderismo, a healing tradition of the Southwestern United States, Mexico and other Latin-American countries.
- Practice how to use plants in water-based microdosis, alcohol-based tinctures, and smoke.
- Explore different traditional hands-on techniques and their impact on body ailments such as shawl alignments manteadas, and fire cupping ventosas.
- Compare the unique sweat lodge traditions in Mexico and New Mexico, USA.
- Experience the benefits of laugh therapy risoterapia, sound and the medicine of the drum and its effects in the body and the emotions.
- Practice the traditional Hispanic & Indigenous methods to perform spiritual/energetic cleansings limpias.

This conference is designed for community members and professionals interested in the Hispanic traditional medicine of Mexico, the American southwest and other countries.Additional Information
Upon request CEUs (Continuing Education Units) will be awarded as well as a certificate of completion upon successful completion and participation in the program.
The presenters and topics of program are subject to change.
